Randy Kelly, Chairman of the Alabama Democratic Party, announced that the State Democratic Executive Committee will meet in Montgomery, AL on August 8, 2026, at the Renaissance Hotel located at 201 Tallapoosa Street in Montgomery, AL. The purpose of the meeting is to reorganize the SDEC for the next 4 years. The first order of business is to fill vacancies which include 11 District Vacancies that were not filled during the May 19 Democratic Primary Election. The District Vacancies are District 6 Female, District 30 Male, District 33 Female, District 39 Male + Female, District 44 Female, District 50 Female, District 61 Male, District 80 Female, District 88 Male, District 93 Female.
The SDEC will also elect a Chair, General Vice-Chair, Secretary, Constituency Vice Chairs to include Vice Chair of Minority Affairs, Vice Chair of County Affairs, Vice Chair of Labor, and Vice Chair of Youth. Pursuant to the bylaws, the Treasurer will be
appointed by the newly elected chair upon taking office.
In addition, there will be an election for National DNC Committee Woman and
National DNC Committee Person. Once the SDEC finishes its work, there will be Congressional District meetings for all delegates to meet by Congressional Districts to elect one male and one female per District to serve on the Executive Board.
The Youth Caucus, Black Caucus, LGBTQ Caucus, Hispanic Caucus, Asian-American Caucus, and Native-American Caucus will meet at 9 a.m. prior to the organizational meeting which is scheduled for 11 a.m.
Any Democrat in Alabama who is registered to vote and desires to fill a vacancy at the organizational meeting may do so in a respective caucus meeting or when the SDEC convenes.
Qualifying may be done up until the position is filled.
