The Etowah County Democratic Women’s Club announces “Sweet Land of Liberty,” the annual celebrity cake auction and fundraiser to be held Tuesday Oct. 10 at the Gadsden Pitman Theater 6 pm. BYOB, dinner $10 donation.
Four women will be celebrated for promoting women’s equality past and present:
Carolyn Parker, first black female county commission chair
Janie Terrell, business woman and community activist
Virginia Smith, longest serving Attalla city council woman
Lilly Ledbetter, responsible for the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009 to close the gender compensation gap
Cakes and baked goods prepared by local celebrities will be auctioned.
All monies raised benefit local democratic candidates, the Democratic Party, and our community. “We are working in many new capacities to change the dynamics in our county and nation,” said Susan Copeland, Chairperson. “New this year we awarded a $1500 grant to the Young Democrats for club building, software, and community service projects.”
