Chairman Kennedy Clarifies Confusion Surrounding Straight Ticket Voting

“Voters across the state are coming to the conclusion that voting the straight Democratic ticket results in their vote not counting for President Obama and Vice-President Biden,” said Kennedy.  “It would appear that there is an underground effort to confuse voters across Alabama; making them think that if they want to support the President they should only vote for him and not vote for the rest of the Democratic ticket.  We believe that this is a deliberate effort by Republicans in Alabama to hurt statewide and county-level Democratic candidates”.

In emails to party leadership and supporters today Kennedy urged voters to ignore anyone telling them that their vote for the President wouldn’t count if they voted for the straight Democratic ticket.  “They’ve got it wrong,” said Kennedy.  “One dot does it all.  Voting the straight Democratic ticket means you are casting your vote for President Obama and Vice President Biden in addition to your county officials and judges.”

Kennedy also urged anyone being told otherwise, especially by an elected official or staff person in a county courthouse or elections office, to immediately contact the Alabama Democratic Party at 1-800-995-6474 to report the activity.  “Anyone deliberately trying to confuse or intimidate voters will be held accountable by the Democratic Party to the fullest extent of the law,” vowed Kennedy.
